When am I eligible to enroll in IHOPKC's benefits?
You are eligible to enroll in our benefits if you work 29+ hours/week or more and you have an active Paylocity payroll account. Your Paylocity account should have consistent income coming through from either stipend or hourly pay. If you enroll in any of our plans, your benefits effective date will be 60 days and the first of the following month from your start date.
Can I enroll in insurance anytime once I become a staff member?
Unfortunately, no. You must enroll during your new employee open window, which is usually open for 30 days after your start date. That means you have 30 days to enroll from the time you become an IHOPKC employee. If you choose not to enroll during that time, then you must wait until the next Open Enrollment period. Open Enrollment windows are usually in November of each year and normally remain open for two weeks. The only exception is if you have a Qualifying Event. Then you may enroll or cancel your insurance under a specific Qualifying Event (QE).
Once I enroll in an insurance plan, can I cancel or change my coverage anytime?
No. Your insurance can be cancelled or changed only if you have a Qualifying Event (QE) that qualifies you to stop or change your coverage. You must initiate this within 60 days of the specified event by contacting your HR Benefits Administrator in writing by emailing hrstaffadvocate@ihopkc.org.
What counts as a Qualifying Event?
- Change in marital status
- Change in # of dependents, including births, or adoptions
- Change in employment
- Change in dependent eligibility due to plan requirements (e.g. loss of student status, age limit reached)
- Change in residence (e.g. employee or dependent moves out of plan service area)
- Significant cost changes in coverage
- Significant curtailment of coverage
- Addition or improvement to benefits package option
- Change in coverage of spouse or dependent under another employer plan (e.g. spouse's employer had no insurance coverage before but now offers a plan).
- Loss of certain health coverage (e.g. plans provided by government or educational institutions).
- Health insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) special enrollment right events.
- Judgements, decrees or orders
- Entitlement to Medicare or Medicaid
